President's Challenge 2025
Someday is Now
Hello BAMQ Members,
My challenge for 2025 is to use patterns and inspirations we have been meaning to use for a project and haven't gotten around to it (or finish it). If you have a pattern that you have wanted to make, now is a good time to make it. If you have a photograph or other item that you have been wanting to use as inspiration, get inspired and make it. Let’s make the “someday” projects the “now” projects.

Jaye - Open Wide Pouches

This pattern has been on my list to make for a long time. I wanted to make some small gifts for Mom to give out to people who have helped her over the past several months. After seeing Lynette's Bag Trunk show, I decided this would be a relatively easy pattern choice. It also served to give me practice on anchoring bag linings to bag exteriors, which was something Lynette taught at Bag Club, but I needed to practice more. Prior to the last Sew Day, I made several that could be used as practice. Lynette went through the steps of anchoring the lining to the exterior again. I practiced on the 4-5 I made and then made 5 more for more practice and to have more for my Mom to give out. Assuming I don't forget how to do it (again) I think I can anchoring the lining to almost any bag

Jaye - Zeppelin Pouch

I bought a set of patterns a few years ago from Sew Sweetness, Minikins Season 1. The set of Bag patterns includes 12 or 13 small bag ir pouch patterns. I have made a few from the set, but not the Zeppelin. I was thinking about a gift for my sister and this pattern popped into my head. It was very odd, because I hadn't been thinking of Minikins Season 1 at all. This turned out to be an awesome pattern! It went together very quickly and the construction was SO clever. I have to send this off to my sister, but may make another one just to show at Bag Club!

Jaye - Vervain Belt Bag

I bought this pattern 2-3 years ago thinking it would make great gifts. I was intimidated by the size of the bag a d set the pattern aside. Recently my aunt picked out this pattern from my collection 🤣 and asked me to make it for her. As with many fears, my fear of the size of the bag was completely unfounded. The bag went together very well and even the lining fit snugly. I hope to make another one soon.

Deb - 12 into 8 doesn't go ... neatly

I've been trying to sort out old projects: "someday, I'll do something with this? Keep it, finish it, toss it?" I made the center mariner's compass (inserted in square background) at a workshop in 1998. It has been in a box for 26 years: "someday I will do something with it". I found it recently; along with small amounts of the leftover fabric. The BAM challenge for the SM county fair is for "not square" quilts; I decided to finish this star into a different shape: turn it into an 8-pointed star, but then I realized it would still have 90 degree corners, so added the dark background to make it an octagon. In the process, I discovered that aligning a 12-point compass into an 8-point star cannot be done totally symmetrically.

Jaye - Day Trip Wallet

The Day Trip Wallet is a Sew Sweetness pattern I bought in March of 2020. I thought it would be great to use as a wallet that I could throw into a larger bag. After I got the pattern, I realized I didn’t feel up to making the pattern. I didn't feel like my skills were good enough. Recently, however, I thought this would be a great pattern for a friend as a gift and I made it. Then I made a second one for my mom so she can carry her cell phone around the house and be hands free.
This was not a difficult pattern, but the layers of fabric, interfacing, Soft and Stable, plus various pockets made it challenging to sew together. I really liked that the pattern is designed to turn the bag through the interior zipper pocket. No bottom lining seam to sew together.

Preeva - Mariner's Compass

I bought this printed interfacing in 2018, and Tula Pink fabric in 2022!
